Benjamin Meck in cast of The Foreigner

2013 Oct 31

Benjamin Meck, of Northampton, will appear on stage in HCC's fall 2013 theater production of The Foreigner.

The HCC Players will present the comic romp by Larry Shue Nov. 14-16 and Nov. 21-23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Leslie Phillips Theater in HCC's Fine and Performing Arts Building. Matinees will be presented Nov. 16 and 23 at 2 p.m.

The play is being directed by HCC theater professor Tom Geha and designed by theater professor Chris Hoyt.

The play follows Charlie, a depressed man, as he is taken by his friend Froggy to a fishing lodge in rural Georgia. Fearing conversation, Charlie pretends to be a foreigner who speaks no English to avoid speaking with the other lodgers. This only intrigues them and soon everyone in the house wants to talk to him. Charlie overhears more than he should and is forced to make up a gibberish language, foil a devilish plot, and discover who he truly is.

The 1984 play won two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production.
