2017 Feb 24

Jametta Bailey-Hailey, of Springfield, has been selected as a cast member for HCC's Spring 2017 theater production, "Getting Out."

The Holyoke Community College Theater Department will present the play by Marsha Norman April 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance April 22 at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Leslie Phillips Theater in HCC's Fine and Performing Arts Building.

The play is being directed by HCC theater professor and alumna Patricia Sandoval, '84.

"Getting Out" is the story of Arlene, a woman struggling to survive on the outside after being incarcerated for eight years in a Kentucky prison. Her struggle to make peace with the past as she confronts the present is compounded by her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, mother, and a friendly neighbor.

"The play, like life, offers no simple answers, but it conveys, with heartrending honesty and compassion, the struggle of someone fighting for her life against incredible odds," one reviewer said.

The Fri., April 21, show will be ASL-interpreted.

Ticket are $10 general admission; $8 students and seniors; $5 for members of the HCC community.
