HCC honors Phi Theta Kappa inductees

Holyoke Community College is proud to announce the newest members of the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Forty HCC students were honored during an induction ceremony on Thursday, October 24, 2019. This special event recognizes students who have demonstrated academic achievement according to the Phi Theta Kappa standards. Students are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa when they have completed 15 college credits with a 3.5 GPA or higher.

The Holyoke Community College Foundation awards nearly $250,000 in scholarships each year to new, current and transferring students. These scholarships have been made possible through the generosity of alumni, friends, faculty, trustees and community-minded corporations. Visual Art Awards

Every Spring, the HCC Fine Arts Department holds a Student Art Exhibition, displays student art throughout the campus and presents a variety of awards. This year's exhibition runs through May 7. Awards were announced Thurs., April 18, during a reception in the HCC Library lobby.

HCC honors Psi Beta Honor Society inductees

Holyoke Community College is proud to announce the newest members of its campus chapter of the Psi Beta national honor society. Nine HCC students were honored during an induction ceremony on Monday, March 25, 2019. This special event recognizes psychology students who have demonstrated academic achievement according to the Psi Beta national standards. To be inducted, students must not only maintain high academic standards, but they must remain actively engaged each semester in one or more projects related to psychology.

'Ugly Lies the Bone' cast and crew

Holyoke Community College is proud to recognize the students who appeared on stage in HCC's Spring 2019 theater production, "Ugly Lies the Bone," as well as those who worked behind the scenes in technical and production positions. The HCC Theater Department presented the Lindsey Ferrentino's play about a disabled soldier April 25-27 in the Leslie Phillips Theater in HCC's Fine & Performing Arts Building. The play was directed by Tim Cochran with stage design by Matthew Whiton.

As the fall semester draws to a college, HCC would like to recognize all those who served this semester as student senators. The Student Senate represents the voice of the students to the administration of the college. It provides and promotes a partnership in governance among all segments of the college community to ensure the welfare of HCC as an institution and the student body as a whole. Throughout the year, the senate plans and participates in activities and events that contribute to the college and the surrounding community.

At home 'In the Heights'

The theme of Lin-Manuel Miranda's "In the Heights" is home, and home is where theater professor and director Patricia Sandoval '84 found inspiration for the HCC production of the Tony Award-winning musical, which opens Thurs., Nov. 8. She found it in the rich Latino culture of Holyoke, drawing on the city and nearby communities for a cast ranging from local high schoolers to HCC students, staff and alumni to community members and professional dancers. Congratulations to these HCC students - and everyone else - who earned a stage role in this marvelous musical.

The 2018 HCC Women's Soccer team will play for a seventh straight New England Championship this weekend at home on O'Connell Field. Semifinal games begin Sat., Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. with the final on Sunday at noon. Stay tuned for details. Go Cougars!

Holyoke Community College is proud to recognize the students who have been selected to appear on stage in HCC's Spring 2018 theater production, "An Enemy of the People," as well as those working behind the scene's in technical and production positions. The HCC Theater Department will present the play by Henrik Ibsen April 19-21 at 7:30 in the Leslie Phillips Theater in HCC's Fine & Performing Arts Building, with a matinee performance Sat., April 21, at 2 p.m. The play is directed by Tom Geha with stage design by Matthew Whiton.

Congratulations to the members of the 2017 HCC Women's Soccer team, who defeated NCJAA Div. III rival Springfield Technical Community College 2-0 Sunday to win the New England Championship (Region XXI) for the sixth consecutive year.
