Holyoke Community College is proud to announce that 75 HCC students have been accepted for membership into the Alpha Xi Omega chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for the 2020-2021 academic year. Students are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa when they have completed 15 college credits while maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher. HCC's Spring 2021 inductees will be recognized in a virtual ceremony on Thursday, May 13, 2021.

Holyoke Community College is proud to recognize the students and alumni participating in HCC's Spring 2021 theater production, "In These Times," an original livestreaming show inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, directed by HCC theater professor Patricia Sandoval, in collaboration with HCC's Music and Visual Art departments. The virtual who will be presented April 15-17, at 7:30 p.m. on YouTube, with an April 17 matinee at 2 p.m.

Holyoke Community College is proud to recognize the following students who have completed their graduation requirements for the 2019-2020 academic year. Members of the Class of 2020 were recognized during a virtual ceremony on Aug. 26, 2020, and will be celebrated again, more formally and in person, on June 5, 2021, during HCC's 75th anniversary Commencement exercises at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.

Every spring, graduates of HCC's Associate in Science in Nursing progam are recognized with a traditional pinning ceremony during which they are inducted into the health care field as soon-to-be registered nursing professionals. They light candles, are "pinned" by a registered nurse, and recite the Nightingale Pledge. This year, because of COVID-19 restrictions, HCC celebrated the 31 graduates of HCC's ASN program with a virtual pinning ceremony on Thursday, May 28, after students did a drive-by pickup of their pins and candles from their teachers at HCC's Center for Health Education & Simulation.

At the conclusion of each academic year, Holyoke Community College recognizes students with honors and awards for outstanding achievement and performance in a wide array of academic areas and extracurricular pursuits. Congratulations to this year's award winners!

The Holyoke Community College Foundation awards more than $200,000 in scholarships each year to new, current and transferring students. Holyoke Community College and HCC Student Activities celebrated the achievements and accomplishments of students who participated in student clubs at the 2020 Club Appreciation and Awards Ceremony on Fri., May 15, which was held remotely this year because of COVID-19. The students receiving this merit badge were recognized in a variety of different categories including leadership, teamwork, spirit and commitment. Individual clubs and advisors were also honored for their work.

The HCC Theater Department will present Thornton Wilder's American classic about daily life, love and death in a small New Enland town Nov. 7-9 in the Leslie Phillips Theater in HCC's Fine & Performing Arts Building. The play is directed by Patricia Sandoval with stage design by Matthew Whiton.

Every Spring, the HCC Fine Arts Department holds a Student Art Exhibition, displays student art throughout the campus and presents a variety of awards. This year's exhibition runs through May 7. Awards were announced Thurs., April 18, during a reception in the HCC Library lobby.

Holyoke Community College is proud to announce the newest members of its campus chapter of the Psi Beta national honor society. Nine HCC students were honored during an induction ceremony on Monday, March 25, 2019. This special event recognizes psychology students who have demonstrated academic achievement according to the Psi Beta national standards. To be inducted, students must not only maintain high academic standards, but they must remain actively engaged each semester in one or more projects related to psychology.

Holyoke Community College is proud to recognize the students who appeared on stage in HCC's Spring 2019 theater production, "Ugly Lies the Bone," as well as those who worked behind the scenes in technical and production positions. The HCC Theater Department presented the Lindsey Ferrentino's play about a disabled soldier April 25-27 in the Leslie Phillips Theater in HCC's Fine & Performing Arts Building. The play was directed by Tim Cochran with stage design by Matthew Whiton.

As the fall semester draws to a college, HCC would like to recognize all those who served this semester as student senators. The Student Senate represents the voice of the students to the administration of the college. It provides and promotes a partnership in governance among all segments of the college community to ensure the welfare of HCC as an institution and the student body as a whole. Throughout the year, the senate plans and participates in activities and events that contribute to the college and the surrounding community.

The theme of Lin-Manuel Miranda's "In the Heights" is home, and home is where theater professor and director Patricia Sandoval '84 found inspiration for the HCC production of the Tony Award-winning musical, which opens Thurs., Nov. 8. She found it in the rich Latino culture of Holyoke, drawing on the city and nearby communities for a cast ranging from local high schoolers to HCC students, staff and alumni to community members and professional dancers. Congratulations to these HCC students - and everyone else - who earned a stage role in this marvelous musical.

The 2018 HCC Women's Soccer team will play for a seventh straight New England Championship this weekend at home on O'Connell Field. Semifinal games begin Sat., Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. with the final on Sunday at noon. Stay tuned for details. Go Cougars!

Orientation Leaders at HCC are a select group of students chosen for their academic standing (minimum GPA of a 2.5 and 24 credits), demonstrated leadership and strong public speaking skills.
