Each Spring, Holyoke Community College recognizes students with honors and awards for outstanding achievement and performance in a wide array of academic areas and extracurricular pursuits. The Holyoke Community College Foundation awards more than 200 endowed scholarships each year to new, current and transferring students. Holyoke Community College and HCC Student Activities celebrated the achievements and accomplishments of students who participate in student clubs at the 2016-2017 Club Appreciation and Awards Ceremony on Fri., May 5. The students receiving this merit badge were recognized in a variety of different categories.

Visual Art Awards

Every Spring, the HCC Fine Arts Department holds a Student Art Exhibition, displays student art throughout the campus and presents a variety of awards. This year's exhibition runs through May 1. Awards were announced Thurs., April 20, during a reception in the HCC Library lobby. Fashion awards were also presented to the best dressed students at the reception.

HCC honors Phi Theta Kappa inductees

Holyoke Community College is proud to announce the newest members of the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Sixty-three HCC students were honored during an induction ceremony on Wed., March 29. This special event recognizes students who have demonstrated academic achievement according to the Phi Theta Kappa standards. Students are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa when they have completed 15 college credits with a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Cast of 'Getting Out' announced

Congratulations to the students who have been selected to appear on stage in HCC's Spring theater production, "Getting Out." The HCC Theater Department will present the play by Marsha Norman, April 20-22 at 7:30 in the Leslie Phillips Theater in HCC's Fine & Performing Arts Building, with a matinee performance April 22 at 2 p.m. The play is being directed by HCC theater professor and alumna Patricia Sandoval, '84.

As Fall 2016 winds down, HCC would like to recognize everyone who served this semester as student senators. The Student Senate represents the voice of the students to the administration of the college. The senate provides and promotes a partnership in governance among all segments of the college community to ensure the welfare of HCC as an institution and the student body as a whole. Throughout the year, the senate plans and participates in activities and events that contribute to the college and the surrounding community.

Women's Soccer Team Crowned N.E. Champions

Congratulations to the members of the 2016 HCC Women's Soccer team, who defeated NCJAA Div. III rival Springfield Technical Community College 4-0 Sunday to win the New England Championship (Region XXI) for the fifth consecutive year. HCC will now play for the District Championship Sat., Oct. 29, 12 noon, at home on O'Connell Field.

HCC honors Phi Theta Kappa inductees

Each fall, Holyoke Community College recognizes the academic excellence of students who have achieved a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, or higher, after completing a minimum of 30 semester hours of work at HCC. These students are invited to join the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa and are recognized at Convocation. Congratulations to them for all their hard work!

'An American Daughter' production team selected

Congratulations to the students selected as members of the technical and production crew for HCC's Spring 2016 play. The HCC Theater Department will present "The Whale" April 21-23 at 7:30 p.m. in HCC's Leslie Phillips Theater, with a matinee on April 23 at 2 p.m. The technical and production team performs critical offstage roles in the planning and execution of theater performances, such as set design, wardrobe, props, lighting, sound and stage management.

Congratulations to the students who have been selected to appear on stage in HCC's Fall 2016 theater production, "An American Daughter." The HCC Theater Department will present the play by Wendy Wasserstein Nov. 17-19 at 7:30 in the Leslie Phillips Theater in HCC's Fine & Performing Arts Building, with a matinee performance Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. The play is being directed by HCC alumna Denise Boutin, '77.

Orientation Leaders at HCC are a select group of students chosen for their academic standing (minimum GPA of a 3.0), strong leadership and public speaking skills. Drama Club 'One-Acts' cast and crew selected

Congratulations to the students participating in the four short plays to be performed during the HCC Drama Club's three evenings of "One-Acts" May 5-7. The plays, directed by HCC students and theater faculty, will be performed beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night in room 111 of HCC's Fine & Performing Arts Building.
